Made from sugarcane fibre, a bi-product of the sugar industry. Ideal as a condiment serving bowl or as a small serve cup. Our sugar cane products are made from the sugar cane fibre that is left after the extraction of juice from the sugar cane stalk. Sugar Cane has been seen as a waste product and is often burned causing unnecessary air pollution. Making tableware out of sugar cane pulp reduces the waste of this valuable resource. Sugarcane fibre regenerates fast, is abundant in nature and renewable. The process has less impact on the environment than making paper from trees and can be unbleached or bleached chlorine free. Friendlypak Sugar Cane products are all certified compostable and biodegradable to independent international standards. Also all our Sugar Cane products are PFOA or Fluorinated Telomer free (this is the family of waterproofing agents used in products like Teflon).
Sugar Cane is ideal for food service, safe for food contact, food storage and takeaways. It is suitable for hot food, liquids, oils and fat. It can be used in the microwave for warming or heating food, but is not suitable for cooking or the oven. Sugar Cane may “sweat” with hot foods with some condensation forming; it is also freezer safe and allergen free.
By switching to Sugar Cane products we are reducing our dependence on oil and non-renewable resources.
Specifications: Certified Compostable to international standards including European EN 13432 or ASTM D6868 – main component Sugar Cane Fibre - Bagasse
This cup is made from paper and lined with PLA (PLA is produced entirely from Maize), certified compostable. Our hot cup 'Vegware' is plastic free and made from fully renewable resources. It is a paper cup lined with PLA derived entirely from maize starch. This waterproof lining is manufactured in a greenhouse-gas-neutral process. The cups are independently certified Compostable to ASTM D6400 and ASTM D6868, all our Ecotainer’s carry this certification symbol. They can also be recycled where municipalities accept poly-coated paperboard and packaging. The fibre used to make the paper is grown and harvested according to Sustainable Forestry Initiative guidelines; there is no harvesting of old-growth forests. 70% of the energy used to make the paperboard comes from fully renewable resources.
Conventional hot paper cups use a waterproof lining made from plastic making them non-recyclable and unsustainable, just another item used for a few minutes at great cost then sent to landfill for 'ever'?
